All About Perms

  • I want you to have all the info for you to have a successful perm life at home. You and I will both be sick of my voice after the many hours together. I will repeat myself a bunch to make sure you know how to care for your perm, how to apply product, style your hair and maintain the new texture for months on months!

  • The thicker and more dense the hair, the curlier the perm can be.

The finer and less dense hair, the less curly and more wavy the perm will be.

  • Perms are still a chemical treatment that change the bonds of the hair. The perm solutions I use are less toxic and more gentle since they are ammonia free. If you have bleach in your hair, I will probably not perm your hair. The bleached hair will not take as well and it could compromise the health of the hair.

  • Every perm client must receive a perm prep prior to their perm service with me. A perm prep includes a Malibu vitamin C detox followed by a protein treatment. This will rid the hair of minerals and product buildup that can inhibit successful perm processing. The deep conditioning protein will strengthen the hair. The only exception will be if you are getting a partial perm above the ears.

  • Plan on spending 6+ hours with me the week of your perm between the detox/haircut and perm. My perms take time depending on the length/density of your hair.

  • My perm clients started to call themselves “permies” and I love it!

FAQs about perms

What is a perm?

Perm, aka a permanent, is a chemical treatment that goes into the cortex of the hair, breaks down the disulfide bonds and shifts them into a new shape.

How are your perms different?

I only use ammonia free perm solutions. Since I am not using ammonia to blast open the cuticle, my perm solution is a slower process and is therefore less damaging and less toxic.

How long do perms last?

Fresh waves/curls start to soften after 4-6 months but never fully go away since we are permanently changing the bonds of the hair.

How often can I get a perm?

Every 6-12 months

How do I get a perm with you?

It all starts with a perm consultation! Please start by booking an in-person or virtual perm consultation here. From there, you will receive a perm questionnaire form to fill out and that will confirm your spot. During your consultation (about 30 min) I will determine if you’re a perm candidate, discuss cost, timing and get you booked out for your perm experience.

“After I got my perm, I loved that my hair didn’t get oily as fast, and that it keeps its volume longer than ever before.

I love my fresh out-of-the-shower curls, but find they go away after sleeping on them if I’m not as intentional with my hair—however getting them back the next day is so easy. Now, my once too-straight hair can now curl easier and hold waves longer when I use a wand.”
